For Art Lovers and Ocean Park Aficionados

A very exciting exhibition took place recently. A retrospective of paintings by artist Richard Diebenkorn was held this past Spring at the Orange County Museum of Art. Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series, was the first major museum exhibition to specifically explore the artist’s work created in our neighborhood from 1967 to 1988.

Ocean Park has served as home to a number of important modern American artists. Diebenkorn had two studios on Main Street, one near Ashland, and the other near Hollister. It was from these studios that he painted the Ocean Park Series of 145 works. Diebenkorn is one of the most beloved post-war artists, and the Ocean Park Series is arguably the most celebrated of his illustrious career.

If you were not able to make the show, a beautiful catalog is available here. It explores Diebenkorn's time in our community and features photography by Ocean Park resident (and OPA member) Miriam Ginzburg. Mirium and OPA are given credit for their help with the book.

"Increasingly, where you were,
became part of who you were...

We didn't just live in Ocean Park;
we loved it."
